I have been making chainmail (or chainmaille) for a bit over a year now. For many years I worked the corporate grind, but now that I am retired I needed something to express my creativity. Chainmail is that outlet.

 

On the following pages are examples of my work. Each of the weaves were used in the Middle Ages to make chainmail armor. Armor is still made in the same way today but for costume or reenactments, instead of fighting. Each ring is made (I buy my rings from a supplier who makes his own rings) and woven into the chains by hand.

 

I use aluminum because it is light and inexpensive, but there is no limit to the kind of metal that can be used... Silver, Gold, Bronze, Brass, Copper, even Titanium and Stainless Steel. Bright, jewel toned colors are incorporated into most pieces.
